ah, elle l'aimait, sa petite veste en peau de souris! la finesse même, la douceur même. tu n'imagines pas cette finesse et cette douceur! comme un habit d'un autre monde
how she loved her little mouse-skin jacket! so absolutely thin, so absolutely soft.
you can't imagine how very thin and soft! like a garment from another world
this, which i've already variously passed on, seems most appropriate today on the occasion of my birthday... (in which i celebrate, as i always say, not my great age but the day i was born!)
I used to be old like you too, but it's not my thing.
today is my birthday, i wanted, out of john vaillant's THE TIGER, to extract a quote - at random from pages i'd marked, this, tribute to phenomenal, sturdy life...
... All of these men were seasoned animal skinners; nonetheless, as they worked, they commented often on the smell and on how amazingly tough the tiger's hide was. When they opened the chest cavity, the heart was steaming.
don't know about smell but i too have amazingly tough skin, as they's found out when i've had to minorly be stitched up (not with staples made out of tin can as some man in this book, after encounter with TIGER) tbc
